I Pledge to Serve

I am Dr JAPUS, an MSc student in International Operations and Supply Chain Management, and I am standing for President of the GCU Students’ Association. I believe every GCU student deserves strong representation, practical support, and a real sense of belonging.

I currently serve as a class representative, representing my cohort at departmental board meetings, where my contributions have supported programme development. I am also the President of the Nigerian Student Society (NSS-GCU), a role I assumed shortly after arriving at GCU. I lead with purpose, responsibility, and a strong commitment to student wellbeing.

Through active engagement with students, I have identified key issues that affect both home and international students, particularly around representation, academic progression, and community connection. These are issues I am prepared to address constructively and persistently.

My Action Points

Inclusive representation

I will ensure that the Students’ Association reflects the full diversity of GCU. I will represent both home and international student experiences fairly in discussions with the University, including cost-of-living pressures, housing concerns, academic workload, visa challenges, and wellbeing.

Academic fairness and progression

I will engage the University to review resit and progression arrangements, especially where delays impact visa compliance or graduation timelines. My aim is clearer, fairer, and more flexible processes that protect students’ academic progress.

Clear and accessible support

I will advocate for clearer communication around academic, financial, and wellbeing support services, and promote peer-led mentoring so students know where to turn when they need help. A connected student community

I will work with course representatives and society leaders to support inclusive events and regular open forums where students can raise concerns and see real outcomes.
