We were awarded Very Good status in 2018/19 Green Impact accreditation programme highlighting our work on sustainability.
“GCU Students’ Association have made some fantastic progress on sustainability this year. A lot of this as been driven by a very active Ethical and Environmental Committee. This is student-led which has seen a significant increase in both attendance and student raised issues this year, alongside online engagement for those who can’t attend. The Association is really engaged in sustainability work, with about half the staff engaged in the production of the Green Impact workbook. Their flagship project this year has been the campaign for the opening of a rooftop Outdoor Learning Space in the University. This has been very successful and involved them overcoming huge barriers relating to health and safety and security. They have also had a number of exciting smaller projects including the Black Minority Ethnic liberation group collaborating with the African Women Climate Change initiative as part of Black History Month activities, the Common Good Catwalk hosted by The Fashion Society and their our soup kitchen society which is active in diverting food from being wasted to those who are in need.” (Green Impact Auditors Comment 2019)
GCU Students' Association has been previously awarded Gold at the NUS Green Impact Awards for our work in ethical and environmental issues. In 2016/17 and 2017/18, we achieved the "Very Good" criteria. We are currently working towards achieving NUS Green Impact accreditation for the current academic year (2019/20).
