I'm the Vice President for the School of Health and Life Sciences. My role is about ensuring that GCU students have an outstanding Student Learning Experience within SHLS.

My Manifesto

I am JENNIFER ABALI, studying Master of Public-Health, Vice President for School of Health and Life Sciences and the Secretary for the Glasgow Students Forum (GSF). I am soliciting your votes in the Full-Time-Officers elections.

ACHIEVEMENTS IN 8-MONTHS (List-not-exhaustive) 

  • Extension of CAS end date such that students can take resits and still have time to apply for Post-study-work Visa.
  • FREE BREAKFAST SCHEME. 
  • Afro-Caribbean Culture Night to celebrate Black History Month.
  • Feel-Fab-February campaign with free events and gym access to promote mental-health and well-being.
  • Notified the University that GCU placement students claim 25p/mile against 45p/mile claimed by other Universities.
  • Brought up the notion of campus meals representing GCU's diverse cultures, which led to the campus's ongoing African Menu.

PRIORITIES 

  1. COST OF LIVING CRISIS
  • Microwaves, hot water, food bank, community fridge, student winter coat exchange.
  • The University to launch "PAY-FOR-ME SCHEME" where students/staff anonymously pay for lunch/coffee/snacks for another student.
  • Reducing food waste in line with SDG 12 to ensure food prices are halved after 3:00pm.
  • Hardship funds for International Students must be specifically stated as “Not Public Funds”
  1. MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING
  • Promote student mental health through events/workshops/socials.

  1. ACCOMMODATION
  • Lobby the Glasgow City Council and ensure that the University provides a document that students can use as references for landlords.
  • Organize a peer-to-peer event for accommodation and networking.

  1.  STUDENTS LEARNING EXPERIENCE
  • Advocate for the Integration of individual timetable into Blackboard and simplifying Celcat.
  • More accessibility for Disability Students.
  • Ensure that students get clear inter-trimester breaks and school calendar clearly shows when there are no study commitments.
  • Reopening 24-hour Computer Lab
  • Promote multicultural diversity/inclusion through events.
