Manifesto for Full-Time Student Nursing Officer

I am standing for election as Full-Time Student Nursing Officer because I am committed to representing nursing students with integrity, professionalism, and innovation. As a student nurse with a specialist background in engineering and renewable energy, I bring a unique interdisciplinary perspective that strengthens healthcare education and practice.

My experience across engineering and health and social care allows me to approach nursing holistically — recognising the importance of safe systems, sustainable environments, and evidence-based practice in delivering high-quality care. I will advocate for learning and clinical spaces that are safe, inclusive, and supportive of both students and service users.

A core priority for me is student wellbeing and mental health. Nursing students face academic pressure, emotional labour, and placement demands. I will champion trauma-informed education, accessible pastoral and counselling services, and strong peer support networks that promote resilience, compassion, and professional growth.

I am also committed to improving placement quality and student safety. I will work collaboratively with academic staff and clinical partners to ensure placements are educational, equitable, and supportive, and that student voices are central in placement planning and evaluation.

My background in renewable energy informs my vision for a forward-thinking nursing community at GCU. I will promote environmentally responsible healthcare practices, sustainable campus initiatives, and awareness of the health impacts of climate change.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion are central to my values. I will ensure the voices of international students, mature students, and those from underrepresented backgrounds are heard, respected, and reflected in decision-making.

As Full-Time Student Nursing Officer, I will be accessible, accountable, and proactive — working tirelessly to enhance the academic, professional, and personal experience of every nursing student at Glasgow Caledonian University.
