Hey, I’m Afia (known as AK), a Muslim-Asian woman home-student, and I’m running for Student President so please vote for me as your FIRST preference on Monday 4^th to Thursday 7^thMarch 2024 on the GCU Student Association website.

I LOVE GCU and never want to leave. I’ve been in GCU since I was 15 years old (7 years now) due to the Student Mentor programme and Advance Higher Hub. I’ve completed a BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree and now, I’m studying MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

My research paper was accepted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and I got the highest percentage in a dissertation presentation the engineering department has ever seen.

In my 7 years of being a GCU student, I’ve been part of basically EVERYTHING in GCU including, 8 job departments (e.g, Student Ambassador and Student Mentor) over 10 societies (e.g, CISA and EDIT) and class/department/student voice representative almost every year - ALL at the same time. I’m also doing the Common Good Award and the GCU Senator.

Basically, everyone knows me in uni. There is NO student with more EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE and LOVE for GCU than me (I even rejected an unconditional offer from Glasgow University for GCU).

Things I will advocate for when I become Student President:

• Fight against discrimination
• Extend closing times for the campus life desk
• Inclusivity
• Listen, act and provide feedback on your concerns!
