Lucky's Plan: Building a Better GCU for All

Hi everyone, I am Lucky Wilson Ehigiamusoe, a post-graduate student of Medical Bioscience from the School of Health and Life Sciences. As a Trustee of the Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) Student Association, I've dedicated myself to understanding the concerns and needs of our student body. My first-hand experience with student challenges sparked a fire within me, a burning desire to be your voice and champion for progress. That's why I'm running for Full-Time Officer.

As your advocate, I'll champion 3 key areas to empower your success at Glasgow Caledonian University:

1. Wellbeing & Safety:

  • Train 50 student volunteers in mental health awareness by December 2024 to provide confidential peer support.
  • Advocate for increased 24/7 security patrols around campus, especially late at night, by November 2024.
  • Conduct a campus lighting audit and improve poorly lit areas by December 2024.
  • Form a student-led Diversity & Inclusion Committee by October 2024 to address inclusion concerns and also organize inter-cultural events.

2. Financial Fitness:

  • Lobby publishers and bookstores for bulk discounts on essential course materials, aiming for a 10% reduction by October 2024.
  • Partner with local banks to offer monthly workshops on budgeting, loans, and responsible credit management.

3. Everyday Conveniences:

  • Guarantee weekly restocks of pens, paper, and other essentials in all study spaces.
  • Campaign for additional washing machines in student residences and negotiate affordable laundry card options by August 2024.
  • Implement a central online calendar highlighting events relevant to diverse student groups and interests, launching the calendar by November 2024.

Together, we can achieve these goals and build a brighter future for all Glasgow Caledonian students!
