Sports Council

The Sports Council is responsible for the following:

a) the co-ordination of athletic activities, which are supported by the Students’ Association.

b) To be responsible to Student Voice for all business and financial arrangements for athletic activities and allocating the clubs budgets.

c) Shall be responsible for developing Students’ Association policy on enhancing student sporting opportunities, subject to the approval of Student Voice.

d) Four statutory meetings will be held throughout the academic sessions; two in each trimester.

e) That there should only be one representative from each Sports Club on the Sports Council.

Roles:

Sports Council Chair – Be the Chairperson at all Sports Council meetings and be the sports club representative on Student Voice.

Sport Council Vice Chair – Fulfil chairperson duties in the absence of the chairperson, with the responsibility of developing infrastructure of sports clubs and implementing and promoting volunteer development opportunities including the promotion of the Alex Goodman Fund.

Club Liaison – is the point of contact for a sports team to deal with any queries or issues that may arise throughout the season. Works in unison to the activities manager to assist his/her role. Is the representative on the equality and diversity panel at GCU. Assist with the promotion of the Student Leaders Programme to all Sports Clubs volunteers.

Performance Convenor – seeks out opportunities for GCU Sports Teams and works with other universities to participate in inter-varsity competitions. Helps sports teams at GCU with fixtures and to reduce the percentage of walkovers. Sit on the Sports Awards Committee, promote and administer the awards nominations and promote the Blues and Colours ceremony.

PR Convenor – Be the main coordinator of sports clubs Facebook sites, design and distribute annual sports club’s flyer. Evaluate and monitor information regarding the sports council on Students Association website. Attend fixtures when possible and take photos/videos for the GCU Wolves Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Events Convenor – Be the lead coordinator for the annual Sports Awards Ball, Christmas Night organisation and other events. Help teams to run events if and when necessary. Be a contact for bookings with sponsor venues.

Clothing and Bar Convenor Coordinate the promotion of the sportswear clothing range and assist clubs purchasing kit. Coordinate the storage of all the sports club’s equipment. Be a point of contact for sports teams to help oversee group arrangements for laundry of team kit. Also, responsible for developing and maintaining a positive relationship with Re:union and building a brand for Wolves Wednesdays.

Fundraising & Outreach Convenor – Oversees and supports sports teams in the organisation of fundraising events during the year. Works in unison with the events convenor when assisting in fundraising events. Holds at least one fundraising event in aid of the chosen charity per academic term. Seeks out opportunities in the wider community that benefit the association, its members and the community. Contact alumni to grow GCU Sport and assist with fundraising through sponsorships.

Sports Lead:  Be the Full-Time Officer representative of GCU Students’ Association with Scottish Student Sport and British Universities and Colleges Sport.

All students at Glasgow Caledonian University are automatically members of GCU Students' Association.
This membership is free for current GCU students.
