Societies Council

The Societies Council is made up of a group of elected students who are responsible for the strategic direction of societies, as well as supporting society events, allocating funds, and activating new societies. 

Anyone wishing to find out more should speak to an existing Council member or email societies@GCUstudents.co.uk

Societies Council Positions

Chair - Douglas Livingston 

  • The Chair is responsible for the work of societies council and oversees all other members
  • The Chair attends student voice.
  • The Chair shall have the authority to control the meeting through the Committee Meeting Rules.

Head of Membership and New Societies - Jocelyn Ayensu

  • Motivating committee volunteers to increase their membership numbers.
  • Ensuring relevant processes are communicated and followed, such as forms being handed in.
  • Encouraging the start-up of new societies and coaching students through this process.

Head of Communication - Dorota Makaruk

  • Increasing general awareness of societies across campus. 
  • Attending event team meetings to represent society events within the GCU Students’ Association calendar. 
  • Ensure an active social media presence is continued and societies are aware of council activities.

Head of Logistics - Christiana Afriyie

  • Structuring the funding model and adjusting it to suit the number of societies and the number of accreditation awards in the current year.
  • Helping societies run their finances and answering queries on the matter
  • Organising society council events and assisting societies in the running of their own events.

Head of Academic Societies - Natalie Elliot

  • Having an overview of all societies in their area and their activities.  Motivating and supporting society volunteers in their area. 
  • Ensuring that all new societies in their area are mentored.
  • Organising smaller group meetings with volunteers coordinating these societies.

Head of Culture and Faith Groups -  Elaine Penman

  • Having an overview of all societies in their area and their activities.  Motivating and supporting society volunteers in their area. 
  • Ensuring that all new societies in their area are mentored.
  • Organising smaller group meetings with volunteers coordinating these societies.
