Celebrating Impact: Trimester B 2024/25 Highlights from GCU Students’ Association

As Trimester B comes to a close, the GCU Students’ Association is proud to reflect on the incredible impact made across campus and beyond. Our community’s dedication to representation, support, leadership, and creativity has never been stronger—just look at the numbers!

Campaign Success

One of the biggest wins this trimester? Thanks to campaigning by your Full-Time Officers, students now have free access to the GCU Gym—a major step forward for wellbeing, accessibility, and student life on campus. Over 2,600 students have already taken advantage of this new benefit.

Democracy in Action

With 40 candidates standing in the Full-Time Officer Elections and 4,967 votes cast, students truly made their voices heard. The Student Voice also thrived, with 59 representatives advocating for your needs.

Support Where It Matters

Over 4,000 food items were distributed to students through the Student Pantry, and 510 students received help from the Advice Centre. Meanwhile, 90% of shifts for the Glasgow Students' Nightline were covered—ensuring reliable service all trimester long.

Engaged and Involved

From 30 sports clubs with 1,060 members to 68 societies boasting 2,969 students, involvement remains at an all-time high. Representation Networks now boast 121 active members.

Empowering Leaders

The Student Leadership Programme saw 502 enrollments, and 311 of the 419 trained class reps were equipped to lead with confidence. Full-Time Officers gave 61 lecture shoutouts to keep students informed and inspired.

Recognising Excellence

Our community celebrated its stars with 29 Star Awards and 28 nominations. The Teaching Awards saw 364 nominations submitted by 319 students, recognising the hard work of 198 dedicated staff members.

Creativity and Communication

The EDIT magazine published two vibrant editions, sharing student stories, opinions, and achievements with the GCU community, while Radio Caley delivered 10 shows with 80 enthusiastic contributors..

From elections to awards, support services to societies, this trimester has been full of growth, achievement, and collaboration. Here's to continuing the momentum into the next academic year!
