Two microwaves and a hot water boiler were installed on Level 0 of the Students' Association Building for our students. Next to the cold drinking water machine.

The Full Time Officers 2023/24 had lobbied the University for the approval to install microwaves and hot water boiler to support students during the Cost of Living Crisis and is a successfully completed Team Objective.

 Student Microwaves Instructions

You are using these microwaves at your own risk.  Microwaves can be a fire risk!

1. Never leave a microwave on if unattended. Immediately switch off the microwave if there is any sparks, smoke or faults and report to Reception Desk or GCU Security.
2. Clean the microwave before and after your use.
3. Students with allergens should consider the use of microwave due to potential allergen contamination.
4. Only use microwave-safe containers.
5. No metal or foil in microwave.
6. Do not put microwave on when empty.
7. Following instructions on food packaging to ensure correct temperature and duration for the microwave settings and so food is thoroughly cooked.
8. Leave a gap on lids or pierce cling film so that steam can escape.
9. Be mindful of steam when opening the microwave door. Keep a safe distance.
10. Be careful taking hot food out of the microwave.
11. Where possible leave containers to cool prior to removal.
12. Reset the microwave controls when you are finished.
