We Won the Santa Sacks Challenge!

Tuesday 19-12-2017 - 11:04

Throughout the festive period I’ve organised and led a donation appeal at GCU for both Help the Homeless Glasgow and a ‘Santa Sacks’ Challenge for Woodside Community Council.

I’m pleased to announce, that not only did GCU manage to raise an incredible 1,238 items in total for both appeals, but through the generosity of GCU Students and staff alike that we’ve WON the Santa Sacks Challenge; with 923 items!

The challenge, as I’ve said previously, isn’t about winning. It’s about giving back to the local communities, and I’m so proud to be part of a university and association which truly reflects the values of being part of something bigger, and an ethos for the common good. GCU have truly went out their way to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable Christmas this year, and a massive thank you to all involved.

Donations for the Santa Sacks challenge will be donated to elderly in communities around Glasgow. This is due to research by the Trussell Trust which indicates that elderly people are less likely to access foodbanks. With donations for Help the Homeless; including duvets, toothpaste, raincoats and more; being distubuted around the city centre on Christmas eve. Any students who would like to get involved in handing out donations can contact me at VP.GSBS@GCUStudents.co.uk for more information.

The Santa Sacks Challenge was run in friendly competition with Strathclyde and Glasgow University, and I’d also like to congratulate Strathclyde and Glasgow on their hard work and dedication, as well as the great job they’ve done in raising items for communities this Christmas.

Best,

Rachel Simpson

Vice President GSBS
