We want to say a huge big thank you to GCU Foundation for supporting our Societies, Sports Clubs, Groups and Networks this year.
Twenty-two of our sports clubs, societies, groups and networks benefitted from donations from GCU Foundation from the Common Good Fund, and this impacted on one thousand two hundred and sixty-five student members involved.
The funding from GCU Foundation is vital to help to students co-ordinate activities and events, buy new equipment and pay for competition fees and instructors.
Here’s what our students thought about the funding:

GCU Dance is incredibly grateful to have received the ‘Big Fund’ of £500, which played a vital role in supporting our delivery of Glasgow’s first ever university dance competition: Caledonian Competition. This event brought together seven universities from across Scotland, competing in nine diverse categories and showcasing an exceptional range of talent, creativity, and dedication. Organising an event of this scale was a significant undertaking for the club. However, given the remarkable growth we have experienced in recent years—both in membership and performance standard—we were confident it would turn out a successful and memorable competition.
Caledonian Competition fostered a highly supportive and uplifting atmosphere, with each university delivering outstanding performances. It highlighted not only the commitment and hard work of all the attending dancers, but also the increasingly high standards within university dance across Scotland. The event also brought attention to GCU’s commitment to supporting extracurricular activities and the performing arts through the fund money granted by the GCU Foundation. Importantly, the funding enabled us to secure a high-quality venue, which significantly enhanced the overall experience for participants and spectators alike. We were able to host near 300 dancers and spectators in this incredible space. We extend our sincere thanks to the C7 Conference Centre for their excellent support throughout the event.
Following such positive feedback, we are excited to announce plans for Caledonian Competition to return in 2027!

The funds made a massive difference in allowing us to hold our silent disco event and plan a podcast in turn making the university a more neuro inclusive environment.

The funding received has had a positive impact on our members by helping to reduce the cost of our competition entry fees this season, making participation more assessable for all our athletes. As a student-led club with a large team, financial contributions can be a barrier for some members, and this support has helped ease that pressure. As a result, more students have been able to take part in competitions allowing them to develop their skills, gain confidence and experience performing in a professional and competitive environment. Overall this funding has contributed to a more inclusive and supportive environment within GCU Cheerleading ensuring all members can have the opportunity to represent the university and benefit from the experience.

We used our allocated funds to hold a fundraiser for Glasgow Clyde Rape Crisis, in which we raised £300 for the charity. As well as this the funds have also gone towards purchasing safety equipment for our members, to ensure they are safe in our social meetings.
Disco Society Treasurer, Thomas Walsh

The funding provided to our women’s football team has had a very positive impact on all those involved. Through this support, we were able to introduce new, more inclusive team kits, which has helped players feel more comfortable, represented, and confident. This has strengthened the sense of belonging within the team and encouraged wider participation.

The GCU Psychology Society held their end of year ball on Sunday the 10th of May at the venue Citation in Glasgow. A nice addition that was identified was the inclusion of a photo booth for the evening. While something that may be considered a simple add-on to the event, it turned out to be so much more than that. The photo booth experience offered the students the chance to use props and pose for numerous group photos. This encouraged everyone to get involved, even students who were not already familiar with one another. This allowed new friendships and connections to be made, ultimately contributing towards the success of the evening and the GCU Student Experience. This opportunity would not have been possible without the generous support of the GCU Foundation. On behalf of the GCU Psychology Society, we would like to express our thanks and gratitude for helping to contribute to such a successful evening.
