Societies Spotlight: Drama Society

Drama article

This week our societies are in the spotlight and every day we are interviewing different Society committee members, today we are checking in with Antonia, who is on the committee of the drama society.

1. What made you want to get involved?

I really enjoyed acting in high school and wanted to continue doing this, so I joined the drama society.  I also wanted to make new friends and societies make it easier to socialise as it can be difficult  to make friends in courses whereas societies encourage people to mix.

2.What are the benefits of being involved in a society?

I would say gaining confidence. Also through Drama i learned public speaking skills which can help in classes or job interviews. Drama is also a lot of silly fun which is light hearted, as we do improv games which is random and fun. It also allows us the chance to escape into a different role for a bit.

3. What does your society get up to?

We have our winter showcase once a year where we perform theatre plays. Then in the second semester we do filming work. We have our weekly meetings every Wednesday, and sometimes more frequently closer to showcase. We also try to organise socials every now and then, we are actually going to laser tag next week.

4.If you could have any celebrity join your society who would it be?

It would defintely be James McAvoy, as he is a good Glasgweigan actor and so is a big inspiration for us.

5.What is next for the drama society?

We plan to create several videos by the end of the semester including scripts from famous movies or original scripts. Next year we will have a showcase again. Sometimes we get emails from people looking to get involved in their film productions, so maybe helping out with a few of them.

Fancy joining in all of the fun, drama membership is free and can be obtained here HERE
