Rachel’s Impact!

Tuesday 10-04-2018 - 10:10

With my term in office as a Vice President coming to an end, I feel it’s important to tell students my big wins that I’ve worked hard to achieve for them over the past year!

  1. Developing our first ever partnership mental health agreement! The plan of action looks at how the university and association can come together to champion mental health and provide a more holistic support service to GCU Students.
  2. I’ve promoted equal and diverse representation by introducing two new student representation groups and student officers for care experienced students and student carers. It’s extremely important that every voice is heard, which is why both student officers sit on our Association’s Equality and Diversity Committee, and our Student Voice.
  3. Championed our Prevent and Responding to Gender Based Violence initiative by ensuring GCU Students are able to partake in this sector leading initiative in partnership with Rape Crisis Scotland.
  4. FREE vocational courses to GCU Students; expanded our Student leadership Programme to include equality and diversity training, and even RE-INTRODUCED NHS ACCREDITED TRAINING!
  5. FREE Sanitary Products to Campus to ensure that education at GCU is accessible. The products will be available in March and April in a sector leading pilot!
  6. Successfully lobbied for, and achieved, additional funding for EVERY Student Group.
  7. Created a Student Support Booklet which documents every student facing support service for GCU Students!
  8. Worked with a series of external charities to bring opportunities to GCU Students such as Action on Hearing Loss, Glasgow Council on Alcohol, Terrence Higgins, Waverly Care, local community councils and NUS!
  9. Planning, Promoting and hosting this year’s Student Summit in partnership with the University! The summit was this year for the first time on the topic of Student Mental Heath – and I’ve since produced a report which was shared with the university on the outcomes and feedback from the summit; which has been used to redraft the University’s Mental Health Action Plan, and the partnership Mental Health Policy.

Aside from the above, I’ve had the privilege of being able to work on a lot of astounding projects this year – all of which I’m excited to be able to continue next year as your Student President.

Best wishes,

Rachel
