Partners in Excellence: SHLS Students-Staff Social Event

Monday 23-04-2018 - 11:30

The relationship between staff and students is more important to reflect the excellence and development of students to give them better experiences and that is why I organised the School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS) gathering event to be a remarkable, social, networking and feedback opportunity for students.

Talking about the Students-Staff Social Event that took placed on 13th Friday 2018, from 4pm -6pm, positive feedback revealed it was worth having, as students were able to feedback, socialise and network in a relaxed environment. The event was graced by SHLS Students, Executive and teaching staff. Also guests who were present for the event were alumni of the school, each from the three departments. First was Craig More, who is a Physiotherapy graduate and currently a Senior Physiotherapist at Sport Scotland Institute of Sport. Second, is Leona Hunter who is a graduate of Applied Biomedical Science and a Biomedical Scientist at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and thirdly was Craig Walsh, who works at the department of Nursing and Community Health at GCU, a graduate of pre-registration nursing degree and MSc Nursing programme.

Activities carried out at the event were Kahoot games, Ice breakers to help staff, students and alumni interact better, career talk that includes, opportunities of being in a health sector, importance of transferable skills, continual development and making positive impact in the society at large. Alumni were able to share their positive experience to students on determination and success in their field. Also opportunity was given for students to feedback to staff about their course which followed catering for the event.

Many thanks to the school officers of school of health and life science who actively participated to see the event was successful and also to the Dean, Associate Dean of SHLS and Students' Association – rep staff for their support.
