This weekend saw our Ladies Gaelic Football (GAA) team travel to Manchester to compete in the BUGAA Division 2 Championships in Manchester.
The ladies have had a tough run in to the Championships with training being a stop start affair due to the floodlights at Nethercraigs Sports Complex not working but, on the pitch the team have been going from strength to strength and thus entered the Championship weekend with confidence of doing well.
First up for the team were Teeside University and the ladies got off to the best possible start by beating their North East opposition 3 - 7 to 0 - 3. Next up the ladies facied another opposition from south of the border, this time Manchester Met and the girls continued their fine form by coming away the victors with a 4 - 7 to 0 - 0 scoreline.
Match 3 of the day came against a strong Northumbria side who also had their eyes on walking away from the Championships with the trophy and gave the ladies a tough game. Althought the opposition was strong the GCU girls kept up their winning streak to make it 3 from 3 with a 3 - 7 to 0 - 3 result meaning the girls set up a semin final with Birmingham University. The semi final was a tough game for the ladies with Birmingham having a strong side but the ladies put in another impressive performance (1 - 9 to 2 - 3) to make it a perfect 4 before the final.
In the Championship final, GCU were, again, set to play Northumbria. After a perfect 4 the girls looked to turn it in to the perfect weekend and walkaway with the silverware. The ladies got of to a great start and continued the form throughout the game with the final score being a dominate 4 - 5 to 1 - 2 topping off a fantastic weekend for the ladies who spent the rest of Sunday whole heartedly celebrating their success!
Congratulations to the ladies on a fantastic weekend!!
