Women have the right to enjoy being out after dark and not to fear for their safety.

Women have a right to walk home at night without fear.

Women have the right to ride the bus at night knowing that unwanted attention will not be tolerated.

Women have a right to go out to clubs and bars knowing that they won't be spiked, groped or catcalled.

"From an early age, we teach girls and women that our safety in public spaces is not something that we can or should count on, and it is our responsibility to keep ourselves safe from an ever-present threat. We are spoon-fed ‘solutions’ of holding keys between our fingers and sticking to the lit side of the path as we accept the inevitability of rape and sexual assault." Sandy Brindley, chief executive of Rape Crisis Scotland

It's time for society to step up and start acting on its promises to treat all with respect.

How many must die from simply going out at night before real change is made? Sarah Everard, Sabina Nessa, Bibaa Henry, Nicole Smallman, Amber Gibson....

Fight for the Night March is once again taking to the streets of Glasgow to draw attention to women's right to be safe...in their homes, in the streets, in clubs, in lecture halls, during the day and during the night.

GCU Students' Association will be taking part and we urge women and their allies to join others taking to the street. We will be meeting with others at Kelvingrove Park at the Prince of Wales Bridge at 6 pm. You can join us there or on route to George Square. Come with friends or by yourself. Look for your Full-Time Officers or bright pink GCU Students' Association lanyards and join the GCU community on the march.

There is more information about the route, Covid precautions and post-march activities on the Strath Union webpage.
