Black History Month is a time to reflect, celebrate and learn about Black history, Black culture and Black excellence. A pause to remember how far we have come; how much has been achieved but yet a reminder that the fight for racial equality is not over.

Here at GCU, we had a variety of events through the month for everyone to attend and participate in; The Black Lives Matter Panel, Show Racism the Red Card Campaign and a series of Lecturers from the Yunus centre on Black thought leaders in Social Entrepreneurship. In addition, we also had a seminar by Tedx Speaker & Qualified Well-being Coach Toluwa Oyeleye on self-worth and self-confidence and what that looks like for students of colour. This was organised by the African Caribbean Society.

One thing that came out clearly from all these events and discussions was the need to educate ourselves and the need to work together to fight for racial equality!
