What it means to be called a Fresher

Thursday 06-09-2018 - 10:11

FRESHER is a special name given to new students starting fresh at University. In UK Universities, new students are called Freshers, which is a shortened version of the American word “freshman”. Yes, fresh! You are fresh as a new start and there are lots of opportunities and events you can get involved in.

As a Fresher, your first week of university life is called Freshers’ Week. This can sometimes seem daunting but Freshers’ Week offers lots of exciting experiences!

Freshers’ week is a chance to make lots of new friends from diverse nationalities, to network and to try out new hobbies, sports and activities. There are also lots of opportunities for student discounts and freebies. What are “freebies”?  Free stuff!

So, as you arrive this September, feel free to take part in activities, meet new friends and network. Wishing you the best throughout your stay and study at GCU and remember to always stay positive.
