Thank you to all the students for the opportunity to serve for the benefit of all.I am looking forward to a splendid 2018/2019 session as your Full Time Officer.  Apart from the summary below, I am glad to have been involved in other projects.

         Summary of my impact

  • Organised the first university large wide multicultural Black History Month event that includes students (home and international), staff and alumni and building better relationships.
  • Embeded Diversity Workshop into Student Leaders Programme, ran at the Students’ Association.
  • Ensured SHLS students’ voices were heard. Worked actively with SHLS executive staff to organise over 30 listening events across the School of Health and Life Science to get feedback from students.
  • Represented the voice of students at every level of meeting in the university and across. University board meetings and National Union of Students (NUS) UK and Scotland.
  • VP SHLS prepared and submitted motions to National Union of Students (NUS) UK. This has opened an opportunity for NUS UK to further campaign/ lobby for the benefit of students with the UK Government on affordable housing deposit for students (home and international), post study visa introduction and visa support for international students.
  • Advocated for more LDC support for INTO students. Critical learning and thinking teachings incorporation within I.N.T.O program; to help improve students with English barrier on critical essay writing prior their transition into the University.
  • Restructured the Student Leaders Programme to allow easier accessibility, completion for students. There was a great turnout for just trimester of over 500 registrations better than previous years.
  • Lobbied for university to fund provision of a 24hr telephone help-point to support students in the University. This was proposed to help students make free local and international calls at any time of urgent need on campus such as family contact, call access for new students to apply/make National Insurance number (NI), accommodation enquiries etc.
  • Introduced and designed an engaging forum for new graduands to share memorable achievements at GCU during graduations to actively engage alumni and keep good memories from July 2018. This will be framed and kept as archive across the university.
  • Achieved University DVC additional signatory to Class Rep certificate. This will help give more value in recognising the commitment of class rep volunteers throughout academic years.
  • Ensured international student voice is heard. Organised PVC-International listening event for students on GCU Glasgow and London campus (First time) to feedback on their study experiences and communicate outcome to them.
  • Initiated proposal and organised a working group (University Head of Learning and Teaching staff) to embed intercultural skill sessions equally across GCU programmes. To create equal opportunities for students on long term intercultural/ diversity skills useful for easy working relationships in classes and employability.
  • Worked with University Career service to organise trimester one and two career drop in session which helped students in CV writing, interview session and follow up all career queries.
  • I successfully organised trimester two SHLS student-staff social event (Theme: Partners in Excellence). This helped to bring together staff, students and alumni in a relaxed and social environment with the opportunity to feedback and network.
  • Worked and ran University media campaigns against islamophobia, racism, and mental health discrimination.
