Outdoor Learning Spaces: Roof Garden at The Saltire Centre

Friday 29-03-2019 - 15:55

When running for my first year as a Full Time Officer, I had a manifesto point that focused on creating and enhancing more outdoor learning spaces for our students. Over the past year as Vice President SCEBE, I have worked alongside the University to reopen the rooftop garden at the Saltire Centre, establishing more outdoor areas for student to study and enjoy. Through partnership working we will be able to open up the garden for student use through ‘British Summertime.’ This will allow students get outside, relax, and enjoy the views the garden has to offer! Currently there are 25 benches and 2 large tables accompanied by recycling facilities to ensure we stay sustainable at GCU!

The garden will re-open on 1st April 2019 (I promise it’s not an April Fool’s joke!) at 9:00am and will close on 27th October 2019. The roof garden has a 80-person capacity limit and If the roof garden reaches capacity, the door will only allow for exiting the premise.

The roof garden is an extension of the Saltire Centre Second Floor and will therefore be subject to the same rules and regulations of the group student space. Students are still expected to abide by the Student Code of Conduct and observe no smoking policies.

I’m really excited to have this manifesto win and would like to thank the university for enabling this to happen! I’ll catch you out there, enjoy! J
