Hidden Disability Lanyards Campaign

Growing from a national campaign, the lanyard is now recognised across the globe as a universal sign that the user is disabled and may need extra support.” / End ID. The lanyard still holds its original purpose and is still used widely in the disabled community as an accessibility tool. This campaign looks to re-educate the current narrative surrounding the lanyards and use them for their original purpose.” / End ID. Underneath that title, the paragraph reads – “My design plan is two fold - to educate staff and students, whilst lobbying the university to implement the lanyards on campus. In theory, this would help diminish everyday discrimination on campus. GCU is also the last university campus within Glasgow that doesn't recognise the lanyard. The campaign would only strengthen our reputation and representation and stand alongside our fellow institutions.” / End ID. However, it has to be acknowledged that the current inclusivity policies in place at GCU are not working. There are staff members who do not follow processes, leading to discriminatory behaviour. There are also issues within the student body where disabled students are excluded, particularly in physical environments like lift access. / End ID.
