Thank you to the students who contacted me regarding the recently-proposed Sunday closure of the Hamish Wood Building.
I have been in discussion with the University this week and am pleased to announce that the Hamish Wood Building will remain open on Sundays for the rest of this Trimester.
The University work very well in partnership with the Students’ Association and consult with us and the students on changes that will affect students. The lack of such communication, on this occasion, was, unfortunately, an oversight and the University will be consulting with us and the students before any changes are decided regarding any such proposals in the future.
The reason for the proposed closure was to help reduce carbon emissions, as all Scottish Universities and Colleges as of 2016 signed the UCCCfS Certificate at Principal and Board level as a public declaration that the institution acknowledges the Scottish Government targets to reduce carbon emissions (80% by 2050). You can view Glasgow Caledonian’s Certificate here.
If you would like to be part of the consultative group to discuss any potential pilot closures in the future then please email me at VP.SCEBE@GCUstudents.co.uk with your name, course and contact details.
