Last Saturday night, our Wolfpack dressed up all glitz 'n' glam to celebrate yet another amazing year of student sport here at Glasgow Caledonian University.
This year has been filled with countless victories on and off field, outrageous socials and high levels of commitment by every Wolves member. Throughout the year teams have organised fundraisers for charity, created links with community organisations and worked together to showcase how inclusive sport at GCU is. It was only right to round off the year with the flow of champagne.
The night started by the Wolfpack showing their admiration for our 2018/19 Sports Council members as they were piped in at the start of the evening. The Sports Council has worked hard over this past year and had worked especially hard in pulling together yet another amazing sports ball –from balloons to ballroom bookings every detail was considered and I’m sure you would agree the venue was decorated so gorgeously! Our shiny new Wolf mascot also made a surprise appearance for the night; despite everyone shouting ‘I want a picture with that bear’ I don’t think his feelings were too hurt so he will have a few more surprise appearances yet!
Sports Ball isn’t just a night of ceilidh dancing and overpriced drinks, it’s also a time when our Sports Ball Award Winners will be revealed. Each sports award celebrates different successes throughout the year, from best 1st year to team of the year, all efforts are accounted for!
Our Sports Ball Award Winners of 2018-19 were;
Team of the Year – Athletics
Club of the Year – Athletics
Sportsman of the Year – Andrew McConnell
Sports Women of the Year – Ren-ne Ong
Exemplary Club Award – Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Football, Men’s Hockey, Women’s Basketball, GCU Wolves Cheerleading, GCU Fencing, GCU Snowsports and Gaelic Ladies Football.
Most Improved Club – Men’s Hockey
Coach of the Year – Lewis Sinclair
Ross Ballie Award (Volunteer of the Year) – Callum Matthews
Alex Goodman Award (Best 1st Year) – Iain Paton
A massive congratulations to all who received an award and all those shortlisted for an award, the nominations were competitive, making the decision process on deciding winners was a difficult task however each and every single one of our Wolves members should feel proud of their personal, and clubs accomplishments this year and may this high standard continue to 19-20!
So, for now it’s time to hang up the smelly kit bag and consider giving your training socks a wash because the Wolfpack will now rest for the summer holidays.
See you next year!
