GCU Racing Society Launches 2025 Formula Student Car

Thursday 10-07-2025 - 09:23

Last night, the GCU Racing Society revved up excitement with the official launch of their brand-new 2025 Formula Student car — a sleek, single-seater built from the ground up by our very own students!

The event was a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and pure determination. Held on campus, it brought together students, alumni, staff, industry sponsors and supporters to unveil the results of a year’s worth of late nights, teamwork and engineering grit.

What makes this car extra special? It’s completely student-led. GCU Racing Society is run by students from across the University, bringing together people from all three academic Schools — including Computing, Engineering, Business, and Health. The project is proudly supported by the GCU Students’ Association and an incredible group of sponsors who help make it all possible.

GCU Racing will compete this summer at Formula Student 2025 — a prestigious international motorsport competition held at Silverstone Circuit (yes, the Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix!). The challenge: build, test and race a high-performance car while developing key real-world skills like leadership, problem-solving, and communication.

The team is made up of 77 members, split into sub-teams focused on areas like Brakes, Powertrain, Chassis, Electrical, Suspension and Non-Technical (media, finance, logistics and more). Whether you're an engineering whiz or a design and strategy enthusiast, there’s a role for everyone.

Since their debut in 2023, GCU Racing has steadily climbed the leaderboard — jumping from 54th place to 48th in 2024. This year, with a sharper car and stronger team, they’re aiming even higher.

Vice-Dean of SCEBE, Professor Tuleen Boutaleb, praised the Society’s achievements:

“Formula Student is more than a competition — it’s a launchpad. We’ve already seen alumni like TJ Scott land roles at companies like Mercedes thanks to their experience with the team. And thanks to generous donors and sponsors, students from all backgrounds can get involved without worrying about cost.”

Want to join the team or support the journey?
GCU Racing Society is open to all GCU students — and they’re always on the lookout for passionate new members and partners. Whether you're into engineering, media, marketing, or motorsport, there’s a seat for you.
