This year, GCU Cheerleading has gone above and beyond with a variety of creative and meaningful fundraising events to support both their club and their chosen charity, the Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund. The club kicked off the festive season with their Xmas Bingo Night, a lively event where over 100 tickets were sold. Club members, friends, and family gathered to enjoy multiple rounds of bingo, win a selection of fantastic prizes, and get into the Christmas spirit—all while raising funds for a great cause. In October, they honoured Breast Cancer Awareness Month by encouraging all teams to wear pink to training, raising £96.
Later in the year, the club hosted a cosy and fun "Wear Your PJs to Training" night, where everyone arrived in their favourite Christmas pyjamas and donated towards our fundraising total, raising £66. One of the most engaging efforts was the Football Cards fundraiser—nearly 70 participants got involved, each selling a football scratch card with help from their friends and families.
The club's biggest achievement came in January with our annual Strava Fundraiser, where they encouraged members to walk as much as possible over the course of the month. The club and committee competed against each other in a friendly challenge, logging over 1,500 miles collectively and raising an amazing £1,250. They also held weekly group walks to keep everyone motivated and engaged. Another club favourite, the Bake Sale, brought in £501.30. Members baked a range of sweet treats—from cupcakes to brownies—and sold them from the stall in the SA building, which saw visitors stopping by all day long.
The club closed the season with our most successful Showcase to date, where the club invited friends and family to watch our talented athletes perform their routines one final time. The night featured incredible cheer performances, a well-supported raffle with brilliant prizes, and an amazing atmosphere. The club raised over £1,000 on the night alone.
Altogether, thanks to the hard work and dedication of club members, and the generosity of everyone who supported the club, they are incredibly proud to donate £2,000 to the Eilidh Brown memorial fund. Eilidh’s dream was to help families affected by childhood cancer, and her family has built a beautiful respite home in the Stirling countryside to support them. This non-profit charity ensures every penny raised goes directly to helping those families, and the club are honoured to contribute to keeping Eilidh’s memory alive. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make these events such a success—your support truly means the world.
