Society winner

We're excited to announce the winners of our recent prize draw for societies, sports clubs and networks that achieved outstanding turnouts in the Full Time Officer elections. Congratulations to all groups who participated and helped make this election a success!

Why Your Vote Matters

This prize draw highlights something crucial: your participation in Students' Association elections has a real impact. The Full Time Officers you elect make decisions that directly affect your university experience:

  • They determine funding allocations for societies and clubs
  • They advocate for student support services
  • They represent your interests to university management
  • They shape campus policies and initiatives
  • They organise events and opportunities that enhance student life

When your group turns out to vote, you're ensuring the elected officers truly represent your needs and priorities. Every vote helps secure better resources, stronger support, and a more vibrant student community for everyone.

Small Group Band (10-20 members)

For small groups, a minimum turnout of 80% was required to qualify for the £50 prize. Five groups met this impressive threshold:

  • Redeemed Christian Society
  • Fencing
  • Men's Hockey
  • Nordic Society
  • Caledonian Court Residents Network

We're delighted to announce that Fencing has won the £50 prize in this category! That's enough for new equipment, a celebratory pizza party, or perhaps a round of victory drinks at the Re:Union. En garde to better club activities!

Medium Group Band (20-70 members)

Medium-sized groups needed a turnout of over 50% to qualify for the £75 prize. The following groups achieved this target:

  • Igbo Cultural Association
  • Sign Language Society
  • GCU Social Sciences Society
  • Women's Hockey
  • Desi Union Society
  • GCU Weightlifting
  • The Edit Magazine
  • Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Network
  • CaledoMUN
  • GCU Mountaineering Club
  • Events Society
  • Women's Network
  • GCU Pole Society

After our random prize draw, we're pleased to announce that the Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Network has won the £75 prize in this category! This fantastic boost could fund a mindfulness workshop, provide resources for a mental health awareness campaign, or support a self-care event to help students during exam season. A well-deserved win for a group that helps so many of us!

Large Group Band (70+ members)

Large groups with over 70 members needed a turnout of at least 40% to qualify for the impressive £100 prize. The following groups achieved this target:

  • Palestine Solidarity Society
  • Cali's Angels Society
  • Caledonian Islamic Students' Association (CISA)
  • Psychology Society
  • Soup Society
  • Bioscience Society
  • GCU Optics Society

We're thrilled to announce that Soup Society has won the £100 prize! That's enough for a serious stock-up on ingredients for their next big soup-making event, some fancy new cooking equipment, or perhaps funding a masterclass with a local chef. Souper news indeed!

Thank you to all societies, clubs, and networks for your participation and engagement in the Students' Association elections. Your involvement helps strengthen our student community and ensures your voices are heard!
