Come Try: Schiehallion

A big welcome to all new and returning members!

 

This is our first hike of the new academic year!  You will be required to purchase a ticket for this as we have limited spaces!

 

We will be summiting one Munro, the ascent for this hike is 731m and will involve hiking 10km.

 

Please see the advised kit list, which can be seen in this article.

 

You will be required to have a minimum of: proper hiking boots (that cover/protect the ankles) and waterproofs. Clothing that is not made of cotton, and no jeans for safety reasons. If you are unsure please contact the club, as you will not be permitted on the trip without meeting the necessary gear requirements below. Please ensure you are also in good health and able to undertake the hike (See link in Route section below).

 

Transport

We will be travelling by van which will be arranged by the club.

 


Outward Journey: Meet outside the Student Union by 7:00AM (please arrive promptly so we can leave promptly).

 


Return Journey: We anticipate arriving back in Glasgow for late afternoon/evening.

 

 

The Route

One of Scotland's best-known hills, Schiehallion is one of the easiest Munros to climb on a fine summer's day. It takes the form of a broad ridge, with the famous conical appearance only apparent from across Loch Rannoch. 

 

 

Necessary Gear

This equipment is essential for a safe and fun day out in the Highlands!

  • Waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof trousers
  • Walking boots
  • Gloves
  • Warm hat
  • Moinsture wicking top (no cotton)
  • Walking trousers (we will not take you up the mountain if you wear denim!). These should be made of a synthetic material, softshell-pants are ideal
  • Warm layers - temperatures on the summit can be cold
  • Backpack
  • At least 2l of water, warm drinks in a thermos are always a good idea too
  • Packed Lunch
  • Snacks

 

We will have to check those attending have the minimum requirements for your own safety and the safety of others, you will not be permitted on the trip if you are not appropriately prepared.
