Come & Try - Hiking

A big welcome to all new and returning members!

This day trip is designed to give you the chance to come and try hiking under the guidance of the experienced members of the club.

We will be summiting a Corbett, the ascent for this hike is 720m and will involve hiking 5.5km.

Weather permitting there may also be an opportunity to do outdoor climbing.

Please see the advised kit list, which can be seen in this article.

You will be required to have a minimum of: hiking boots (that cover/protect the ankles) and waterproofs, and preferably clothing that is not made of cotton, and no jeans for safety reasons. If you are unsure please contact the club,  as you will not be permitted on the trip without meeting the above requirements.

Transport

We will be travelling by van which will be arranged by the club.

Outward Journey: Meet outside the Student Union at 8AM (please arrive promptly so we can leave promptly)

Return Journey: We anticipate arriving back in Glasgow for the afternoon, where we will have a chance to go out afterwards to a pub (Malones).

The Route

We will be following this route: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/lochlomond/beinn-an-lochain.shtml

Background info to the mountain: Beinn an Lochain was classified as a Munro on Sir Hugh's original list. More recent surveys put it well below 3000 feet but it is very steep and fine mountain that admits no inferiority to the surrounding higher peaks. It gives a short but strenuous hillwalk.

This equipment is essential for a safe and fun day out in the Highlands!

  • Waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof trousers
  • Walking boots
  • Gloves
