Winter Hike - Càrn na Caim & A'Bhuidheanach Bheag

You will be required to have full membership to the club to attend and purchase a ticket for this trip. Details for purchase of tickets through this page will be published in due course, so keep a look out on our Instagram page for updates.

As we are expecting winter conditions, initial release of tickets will only be purchasable for those that are trained in winter skills, tickets may be available to those without closer to the time if it is deemed that winter conditions aren't present.

We will be summiting Càrn na Caim & A'Bhuidheanach Bheag near Drumochter. These two Munros will provide a fantastic winter day out, with great views over the Cairngorms.

Please see the advised winter kit list. You will not be permitted on the trip without the necessary essential kit and B1/2/3 rated boots (crampon compatible), crampons, ice axe. The club can't borrow boots as we do not have these to borrow. Ice axe, crampons and helmet (if required) will be included in the ticket price should you wish to borrow them from the club, this will be first come first serve. Boots can be rented from Tiso if you do not own them.

Transport

We will be travelling by van which will be arranged by the club.

Outward Journey: Meet outside the Student Union at 6:50am, we will be departing by 7:00am (please arrive promptly so we can leave promptly).

Return Journey: We anticipate arriving back in Glasgow after 6pm.

The Route

We will be following this route: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/carn-na-caim.shtml

Background info on the mountains: The east side of Drumochter pass is bounded by a steeply rising moor, riven by gullies. Suprisingly given its unimpressive appearance, there are two Munros on the plateau above. The hills themselves lack interest but this walk gives a real feeling of space, especially in winter. The tops are the haunt of dotterel and ptarmigan.

Necessary Gear

Please see the advised winter kit list.
