You will be required to have full membership to the club to attend and purchase a ticket for this trip

 

This day is intended for: Exchange Students who are leaving this semester, and therefore will not be able to participate in any winter skills training.

 

This is a crash course training session in the basics of mountaineering in winter conditions. This will include use of ice axe, crampons, ice axe-self arrest, navigation, winter safety, avalanche awareness and emergency procedure amongst other things. It will not involve any ropework.

 

Come prepared for a day in the mountains. It will be cold so please factor this in when deciding on clothing (see winter kit list), there will be periods where we are static, and please bring waterproofs as we will be doing some sliding about! 

 

We will aim for roughly 5-6 hours on the mountain, and expect a minimum of 600m of ascent.

 

Please see the advised winter kit list. You will not be permitted on the trip without the necessary essential kit and B1/2/3 rated boots (crampon compatible), crampons, ice axe. The club can't borrow boots as we do not have these to borrow. Ice axe, crampons and helmet  will be included in the ticket price should you wish to borrow them from the club, this will be first come first serve. Boots can be rented from Tiso if you do not own them/cant borrow B rated boots from someone, you must sort this at least on the day before, and make sure to get a rental to cover the following day as we will not return before Tiso shuts, and will be leaving before Tiso opens on the Saturday!

Transport

We will be travelling by van which will be arranged by the club.

 

Outward Journey: Meet outside the Student Union at 6:50am (please arrive promptly so we can leave promptly).

 

Return Journey: We anticipate arriving back in Glasgow after 7pm.
