What is Glasgow Students' Nightline?

Glasgow Students' Nightline is a confidential and anonymous telephone, text, and online listening and information service run by trained students for the students of GCU, Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities.

Nightline is open for phone calls on 0141 334 9516 from 7pm until 7am, plugging the gap in support services for students through the night.

You can also contact Nightline via online messaging if you'd prefer, his service is open from 7pm to 12 midnight, Monday to Friday during term time from the website - www.glasgowstudentsnightline.com.

Nightline is there for anyone that's having a tough time, needs a friendly ear to listen to whatever's on their mind, or who just needs the phone number for a local taxi company at 3am after a night out. Nightline is the only service on campus that offers both information and emotional support through the night via phone and live instant messaging

We provide our service according to six main principles:

  • Anonymity: we will not ask you for any details about yourself and we do not disclose information about ourselves or other Nightline volunteers.
  • Confidentiality: anything you call about will be kept completely private within the organisation, with the exception of calls relating to acts of terrorism.
  • Non-judgementality: we treat every call and every caller the same, putting aside any personal opinions or prejudices. We accept you without judgement.
  • Non-directionality: we will not tell you how to solve a problem or give you advice. We are there to listen and help callers in exploring their own emotions, situations and options.
  • Commitment: Nightline aims to ensure we provide the best service we can by seeking to ensure all shifts are covered so that our service is reliable and available as advertised
  • Support: we strive to support callers and our fellow volunteers at all times.
