Vice President of Wheelbarrows

“Aww it is well hot”…”Might be too hot”…”Yeah might be”, the classic British response to any extended period of weather that doesn’t involve rain, hail or snow. In all fairness I couldn’t have asked for a better week to begin my week in office as Vice President Wellbeing.

For those of you who don’t recognise my “Puss” (Scottish slang for face), my name Is Jack Johnston and I am a soon to be graduate of the School of Engineering and Built Environment who has had a continuous involvement in the Students’ Association for the past 4 years, so getting paid to be here seemed to be the natural progression…

I’ve had an incredibly busy first 3 weeks, which included some residential team building in Aviemore with my fellow full time officers Neil, Lee and Michael. This mostly consisted of NUS team building scenarios and swinging from hoops across a lake.

Lee was on the only one of us who didn’t come back smelling like someone had left a halibut under a radiator, Vice President Activities living up to the job description by being the only one making it across.

The rest of my 2 week handover period was taken by the lovely Sinead Wylie, the outgoing Vice President of 2 years. This involved shaking countless numbers of hands and nodding politely when I had no idea what was going on. All joking aside, this handover has helped me enormously as I have met a vast amount of university officials that will allow me to represent the students of GCU efficiently and provide a further platform for student engagement.

So from here on in it’s just me and my 2604 page handover document left to me by Sinead, which is easily transportable around campus in a 75 litre wheelbarrow that I purchased from Homebase for a reasonable £29.99. Once again a big thank you to Sinead and everyone who has helped make this induction as enjoyable as possible, and I can’t wait for the year ahead.
