Statement on EU Referendum Result

This year, the United Kingdom went to the polls in a referendum to end their membership of the European Union. The result saw the Leave vote win by a narrow margin, putting the UK’s 43 year membership in jeopardy as the government now debates whether to invoke Article 50.

Understandably this will raise many questions for all students, whether they are Home or EU.

Our Students Association exists to represent ALL students at GCU, regardless of race, creed or colour. We aim to foster a welcoming and inclusive student community on campus, allowing our members to form and build upon strong, lasting relationships that contribute to an enjoyable and productive university life. As part of this we aim to encourage a culture of belonging within our organisation and will not condone any discrimination or xenophobia towards ANY of our members and wish to re-iterate our commitment to activities which celebrate our pride in the diversity of our student body.

Whilst the current political climate may cause agitation and uncertainty for many of our international students, we want to make it absolutely clear that you are welcome here, welcome in our societies, welcome in our sports clubs, our media groups, student leaders programme and in every aspect of the services that we offer our members and that you will continue to be an integral part of our student body, a part of our Students Association and a part of something bigger.
