Society Spotlight: Psychology Society

Name: Nicole

Society: Psychology President

1) Why did you get involved in societies?

I mainly got involved with societies because I am an international student and saw it as a great way to make new friends that I have common interests with. As I study psychology the Psychology Society just fit perfectly and I wanted to improve upon my leadership skills and therefore took on the Presidency.

2) What does your society get up to?

The Psychology Society arranges social nights such as, quizzes, movies, games, and at times themed parties. We also do academic events such as guest lectures and field trips! This semester for example we have an easter egg hunt and a trip to a prison planned.

3) What’s the biggest benefit from being in a society?

The biggest benefit from any society is to meet new people and expand your social network! The Psychology Society’s biggest benefit is probably learning new things while still having a good time. I believe it is very beneficial for younger students to have a chance to interact with students who may be in year three or four and perhaps gain some useful advice. I suppose free food at all events are also a plus!

4) If you could have any celebrity join your society who would it be and why?

Well, as we are the Psychology Society I guess most of the members would be a bit upset if I did not say Freud... I think many people would enjoy a beer with him! Imagine standing in Malone’s with Freud and telling him all the psychology-related jokes there are about him nowadays!

5) If your society had to be a sandwich filling, would it be a BLT, roasted-red-pepper hummus or cheese and pickle?

Hmm... I think I would have to say a roasted-red-pepper hummus sandwich since it’s a bit of a mouthful to say. Also it seems like a good mixture for a sandwich which is what we as a society are with students from all different schools.
