Freshers Thursday...

We’ve had guests come from all over the city this week to our Fresher’s events on Campus. The new students have been welcomed by bars, clubs, cafes, restaurants, fitness clubs and charities from all over Glasgow but day 3 of the Caley freshers week marked the arrival of some ‘out of this world’ guests to perform on campus.

Britain’s got talent’s ‘BOOGIE STORM’ arrived on Wednesday afternoon to perform onstage outside the ARC building. The group of lads from Liverpool (yes in England, we were also disheartened to find out they are in fact not from a galaxy far far away) travelled from Manchester on Wednesday morning straight to Glasgow Caledonian University to perform their mashup performance from the live Britain’s Got Talent show.

Boogie Storm followed performances by GCU’s very own cheerleading and dance team who had a go at showing the new freshers what sort of clubs they could get involved in for the forthcoming year. The Liverpudlian lads gathered a huge crowd of new and current students on the campus steps to watch their performance. It was clear that a lot of members of staff and passers-by couldn’t help but stop and take a seat for themselves to see what the commotion and blaring Star Wars theme tune was all about. It’s not every day you manage to get a snapchat video of storm troopers twerking to Beyoncé on a stage just outside the campus bookshop.

It was definitely a highlight of the week to have the pleasure of this group perform to our new students and give them a welcome to university that we assume they won’t forget. Those who attended the show also got the chance to ‘meet and greet’ the group when the performance was over – and of course offer up a dance-off to the breakdancing storm troopers.
