Students vote

Students’ associations all over Scotland took part in a final drive to get students to the polling station on 18 September 2014 as part of the independence referendum.

The campaign, which aimed to show the impact of the student vote, highlighted through social media the volume of students across Scotland who were taking part in the referendum. The campaign resulted in over 500 students taking part in a selfie competition between students’ associations on the hashtag #studentsvote.

Glasgow Caledonian University Students’ Association, who were on the campaign trail throughout the day, posted the most photos in the competition uploading more than 100 on social media.

John Gaughan, Vice President Education at GCU Students’ Association said: “I couldn’t wait to get involved in the students vote campaign, it was freshers’ week for us which meant that there were students all over campus.

“People were really receptive to the campaign and were keen to get involved to show how much the student voice matters. Everyone was really excited about the referendum on campus and this was a great way to capture this on camera!”
