Most people who have lived in student accommodation will have seen the amount of things being thrown away at the end of each academic year as students move out of their acommodation. Student accommodations require students to empty their flats completely when they leave. This includes things like plates, cutlery, baskets, pots, hangers etc. Private student accomodations also sell boxes with these things as "starter packs", knowing that especially international students will not have the option of bringin these items from home. This accomodation procedure creates huge amounts of waste (that is often not being recycled), promotes waste of resources and requires students to spend a lot of money on purchasing new homeware.

As a university that is commited to the sustainable development goals as well as the common good, I suggest to organise a yearly sale of homeware to promote a responsible use of resources and allow students to purchase items for a lower price.
