I am an autistic student and I find myself struggling in common areas as they can be loud, crowded and quite overstimulating. I have been looking for a sensory room or quiet room to allow me to decompress in a safe environment. The pods in the library whilst quiet are not very private if one wishes to stim.

My idea is to create a sensory room on campus, a safe space for neurodiverse students to relax, decompress and rebalance themselves. I am a aware that this is not a small project and that if it were to happen it might not be during my time at GCU nevertheless I believe this idea is worth considering for future students.

Obviously, a sensory room would not be exclusively for neurodivergent students, they have been shown to reduce anxiety and stress. However, having one may benefit them more than neurotypical students.

Agreed. They would be very useful. University of Stirling has one and it's a success

Absolutely love this idea. This is something I struggle with myself and would find this beneficial.
