This year, Emergency Care Society proudly hosted an RSAH (Restart a Heart) event as part of the national mass training initiative led by the Resuscitation Council UK. The aim? To equip as many people as possible with the confidence and skills to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), a simple yet crucial action that can save lives.
Early recognition, calling for help, and starting CPR immediately are the first vital steps in what’s known as the Chain of Survival. These actions dramatically increase the chances of survival after an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Every minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation can reduce someone’s chance of survival by around 10% (Resuscitation Council UK, 2025), which is why education and awareness are so important.
We were thrilled to see 76 participants take part in the event. Attendees not only learned how to recognise when someone needs CPR but also had hands-on opportunities to practise and build their confidence. Many shared afterwards that they now feel far more likely to step in and help in a real-life emergency, an outcome we’re incredibly proud of.
One of their key goals was to reduce the fear and hesitation people often feel around CPR. Through guided practice and reassurance, we showed how straightforward it can be to make a real difference in a critical situation.
This was only their second year running the RSAH event, but it’s already becoming a highlight in the annual calendar. GCU Emergency Care Society are committed to continuing this initiative each year in partnership with the Resuscitation Council UK, and to working toward a world where everyone knows how to perform CPR.
Because one day, that knowledge might just save a life.
