GCU Podiatry Society - used shoes to homeless people

Wednesday 25-01-2017 - 16:18

GCU’s Podiatry Society, supported by Podiatry Lecturer Jackie Locke, ran a campaign at the end of last year to collect and distribute used shoes to homeless people.

Working in partnership with David Hurrell, from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s (NHSGGC) Podiatry Service, who provides a podiatry service for the homeless, the Student Society asked staff and students from the School of Health and Life Sciences, and NHSGGC podiatry staff at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, to donate good-quality, used shoes, new socks and sanitary products.

GCU Shoe, Sock and Sanitary Drive

The GCU Podiatry Society wants to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our recent charity drive. Our final total was: 181 pairs of shoes! Over 130 Pairs of socks! 90 toothbrushes! 45 tubes of toothpaste! and lots of other toiletries, sanitary products and useful items of clothing! Without the support of everyone who donated none of this would have happened, so congratulate yourselves and hopefully we have managed to make someone's Christmas just a little happier.

Hundreds of items were donated and distributed to two charities – The Marie Trust and the Lodging House Mission a few days before Christmas.
