My name is Neil Alexander and I will be one of your student vice presidents this year. I will be representing the School of Engineering and Built Environment as well as working with GCU’s sports teams and the award winning Radio Caley. Within the Students’ Association I am also responsible for students studying aboard and international students here at GCU.

The Students’ Association is the student-lead body of the university and has a variety of different opportunities to offer students such as sports, societies, media and the student leaders program. You can find the Association in the North Hanover Street building, on the far right hand side of the campus.

In the past week, the building and it's staff have become euphoric. This is an incredible time to be working within the building as we ready ourselves for the mark that is Freshers’ Week. The dedication and hard work on display from staff and Full Time Officers alike has become incomparable – I owe a special thanks to all of those involved in welcoming our new students to Caledonian Court at the weekend just past. I made an election promise for the Students’ Association to take on partial social responsibility for our ‘in-house’ residents and we all rose to the challenge.

So is the Students’ Association ready for the Freshers’ week race? Hell yeah. This is by far going to be 

GCU’s busiest and best Freshers’ to date. I worry for my sanity by the end of it – but this is where I mention what an incredible exec team we have. John, Jodie and Michael are all so passionate about representing and fighting for students’ interests, your interests. John & Michael, the old guard themselves have a vast amount of knowledge to tap into – this with Jodie’s and my hyperactive and borderline crazy enthusiasm give this team a brilliant balance. It’s a team that it is a privilege to be a part of.

So GCU here we go. We’re ready for the year ahead, are you?
