Student President has been working on...

  • Secured a commitment from the University to produce personalised year long timetables published by early August.
  • Worked with the university to successfully secure a €430,000 European project focused to improve volunteer development.
  • Quadrupled the number of representative positions for postgraduate research students.
  • Set up pilot Advisory Boards and Staff Insight Schemes for GCU support departments
  • Working with Encore to develop the bar in the Student Bistro.
  • Worked with other Full Time Officers to deliver another record breaking Freshers week.

 

Vice President School of Health and Life Sciences has been working on...

  • Restarted the Disabled Students’ Group and worked with the Disabled Students’ Officer to host a focus group to find out more about the student experience of disabled students at GCU.
  • Started a project on reducing food wastage at GCU. This project forms part of the NUS Green Impact Award. We are aiming for Excellence!
  • Working with NUS Scotland to discuss plans for a Living Wage Bursary for Student Nurses. A survey will be released shortly, with findings being reviewed to determine the best approach to take.
  • Organised two campaigns where we engaged with over 1500 students to increase awareness of Personal Safety and Mental Health Stigma.  
  • Running the Going Higher Campaign to ensure that Student Carers are better supported at GCU.
  • Successfully changed the GCU registration process to make clearer to new students on the purpose of the collection of disability information and how it is used.

 

Vice President Glasgow School for Business and Society has been working on...

  • Refreshed the Student Leaders Programme, making it accessible to all students and more new challenging workshops.
  • Developed and implementing a plan to give societies better support through reviewing training, developing  a society guide and developing a mentor scheme.
  • Supporting the LGBT+ society to achieve Gold in the Clubs and Societies Accreditation Scheme.
  • Established a strong relationship with the Schools Dean to establish students views on the methods used to establish feedback and assessment.
  • Secured funding for all three School Officers to hold welcome events for their Class Reps.
  • Chaired the Freshers Committee, resulting in great Freshers based on your feedback

 

Vice President School of Engineering and Built Environment has been working on...

  • Working with the Sports Council I reformed the sports financial structure to encourage better club development and implemented a new ‘trimester membership’ for international and post-graduate students, making GCU Sport much more inclusive.
  • Organised a Study Abroad Survey to identify students perceptions about studying abroad in order to run a campaign for change.
  • Organised the ‘Move-In Weekend’ at Caledonian Court, helping students move into their new on-campus accommodation. Also had the first ever ‘Caledonian Court Fayre’ during Freshers’ featuring a few attractions including a drop zone!
  • Introduced a Student Charter Research Group, a group including a range of students and staff with the focus on developing a new joint charter between the university and the Students’ Association.
  • Had a Student Advisory Group on catering provisions on campus, giving students a new mechanism for feeding back.
  • Organised and ran the 2nd School of Engineering & Built Environment Conference focusing on the key themes of lab & software access, student placements and learning & teaching experience. As a school we now also have more class representatives than ever before whilst looking for our Construction & Surveying School Officer we received more applications than any other School Officer position in GCU history.
