UCU Strikes

Tuesday 21-06-2016 - 12:24

Further to the industrial action on the 25 and 26th May 2016 members of the UCU are taking industrial action on Thursday 23rd June 2016. GCU has said: "We expect all buildings to be open as normal and measures are being put in place to minimise disruption, however, please note the action may impact on some services. Any updates will be posted on GCU’s Facebook page and on Twitter @caledoniannews and @gcutoday."

GCU Students' Association are supportive on the principles behind the industrial action but not for any actions that will disproportionally affect our members. We support educating our members on the reasons behind this dispute.

Previously:

On Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 May 2016 members of the University and College Union (UCU) are taking industrial action in response to the 1.1 per cent pay offer made by their employer body, gender inequality in pay and casualised contracts. NUS explain more about the reasons behind the industrial action. The UCU (trade union) has written a student leaflet explaining their reasons behind the strike. GCU has sent an email to every student explaining that the campus will remain open and services will remain open. Any changes to this situation will be communicated on the GCU social media sites - Facebook and Twitter. This is a national dispute that will affect every university in the UK.

UCU are holding a rally on Wednesday 25th May at 12noon in Adelaide's in Bath Street. You can also follow GCU UCU on Twitter.
