Name: Laura Welsh
Role: Radiography Society President

What does your society do?

We host social events for our members, and provide educational opportunities. Our members primarily consist of students from diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy courses, the aim is to network within the profession to build stronger links when we graduate to improve working relationships. This year we are branching out and doing joint events with other societies, such as the Halloween night out which took place on Thursday 27th October in Malone's and the Halloween movie night in the bistro on Monday 31st. Last year we hosted a study day for students to attend and discover more about the working world of radiographers and this year RGU are taking on the format and hosted the conference on Saturday 29th (it was a very busy weekend). Additionally we promote the radiography profession to children and young adults at school events and the Glasgow science centre to let people know what we do.

Why did you get involved?

I got involved to improve the relationship between the different year groups, to make the society a go to option for students with any questions and to promote the profession out with the university.

What is the best part about being in a society?

The best part for me is the incredible dedication from the committee members to arrange and support society events. Everyone has truly come together this year and it really makes a difference to our members and the opportunities we can provide.

If you could do one thing in the world what would it be and why?

There's so many serious answers to this question it's impossible to pick just one. So let's just go with an issue close to my heart instead, ideally I would create cadbury's dairy milk chocolate that doesn't make you put on weight, in fact, it can actually aid with weight loss if you want and still tastes the same, yep, that would be awesome!

If you could live with one celebrity who would it be?

A little old school, but I reckon Jennifer Aniston would be a good laugh. She always seems so down to earth on chat shows, but likes to have a laugh. Plus I don't think there would be any drama the way I would imagine for some other celebs!
