Renata

Name: Renata Funari
Role: Amnesty International GCU Chair

What does your society do?

We are affiliated with Amnesty International UK which is a leading human rights organization.  Our aim is to bring people of similar interests together to promote human rights issues occurring all around the world. We have just started as a society but so far we have hosted a movie screening with interviews with people who have been put on death row under unfair circumstances and a hosted a human rights themed pub quiz at Malones.

Why did you get involved?

I got involved because I was looking to pursue other hobbies outside my course. During my first year I felt like I didn't have enough opportunities to meet people with similar interests as me and therefore thought Amnesty was the perfect way to get people together.

What is the best part about being in a society?

Seeing the great ideas people can come up with!

If you could do one thing in the world what would it be and why?

I would want to cycle the route Che Guevara did in South American when he wrote his 'Motorcycle Diaries'

If you could live with one celebrity who would it be?

Devendra Banhart because he is handsome and seems pretty cool.
