After a high level of feedback from students about students leaving their property unattended at PCs for long periods, the Saltire Centre and GCU Students’ Association got together and asked GCU students online and in person should the library securely remove property that has been left for long periods to free up space/pc for other library users?

Our online poll results were: 359 GCU students voted and the results were: 285 Yes, 74 No.

Therefore a new policy has been brought in by the Saltire as follows:

From the 23rd of March any belongings left unattended for 45 minutes will be removed to make study spaces available for other people to use. Personal belongings that are left to reserve a space in the library are not only at risk of being stolen, but also deprive your fellow students of the opportunity to use a much-needed study space. The PCs in the library already auto log-off after a period of inactivity, and any PC which isn’t logged on will be made available to another student to use.

All belongings removed will be taken across to campus security Office which is open 24/7. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the Library Desk on level 1 of the Saltire, by phone on 0141 273 1000 or by email at librarydesk@gcu.ac.uk
