Freshers blog post – final day!

Friday 16-09-2016 - 16:48

For any freshers who have moved away from home to come to GCU, you may have moved into Caledonian Court. Caley Court, as it is ‘affectionately’ known, is a unique, special place where you will make some unforgettable memories (some you may just want to forget but your friends will never let you).

Caley Court is a place you realise that rolling out of bed at 8.30am for a 9am lecture is possible, that parties are near impossible without security attempting to shut it down at 10pm, and that living with 7 other people and sharing a kitchen is something you will never want to go back to. Students have been moving into halls for the last couple of weeks, and we spoke to some of them to find out their experiences of Caley Court so far.

Digital Security, Forensics and Ethical Hacking student Fanis said that his flat had been nice so far and that he got along well with his flatmates. He’s looking forward to starting his course, as he feels it will be interesting and fun to learn about.

Ruth, a Learning Disability Nursing student, is lucky enough to live in the building in Caley Court that is almost always inhabited by a variety of Nursing students. This means that they all have a similar schedule and a lot of them will be remaining in Glasgow over summer to do their placement.

Computer Games Software Development student Fotis moved from Greece to Glasgow because the programme he chose to study is amazing and exactly what he was looking for. He thinks Glasgow is a great city to study in and is looking forward to beginning university and working the best he can.

Psychology student Ava moved to Glasgow because she thought it was a beautiful city, a sentiment she now agrees with even more now that she lives here. She also knew that Glasgow is a relatively cheap city to live in, so is perfect for students.

Florence is about to begin her course in Occupational Therapy, and has enjoyed the nightlife in Glasgow that she experienced in fresher’s week.  Although the clubs she went to were busy, she still had fun and is looking forward to going out again when it’s hopefully less crowded. She had a look round the fresher’s fayre but has decided to wait until her course starts before she joins any societies to see how much free time she has.

Nicole moved to Glasgow from Ireland to study Nursing, after having the choice between here and Edinburgh (obviously Glasgow was the right choice). She’s been out for a few nights this week but had to wait until she met her new flatmates before she could think about buying a wristband as she did not know anyone in Glasgow.

To all the people in Caley Court this year, good luck – you might need it!
