Farewell to Freshers’ Week 2016!

Friday 16-09-2016 - 16:32

What a week we’ve had! This year Freshers’ Week has been absolutely jam packed full of societies, sports clubs, media groups and much more offering freebies and come and try sessions. Depending on which band you bought, either Active or Club, you’ve also had the chance to sample some of the exciting and varied opportunities that Glasgow has in store for you. We hope you’ve made fantastic pals and shared in some great experiences across the past few days. However, it doesn’t all end here…

Freshers’ Week only shows a small proportion of the impact that taking part in groups, societies, clubs and campaigns can do for your university experience. As a final year student, I recommend getting involved in as much as possible. Across my four years at GCU, the Students’ Association has been an exciting hub of activity where there has always been something to get involved in. From environmental groups, to student media, to the politics in Student Voice, societies, sports teams to potentially even becoming a Full Time Officer and aiding in the preparation for next years’ Freshers’ Teams, it’s up to you what you become involved in.

It’s not all over though! Here is a breakdown of what you can get involved in tonight and tomorrow in the final hours of Freshers’ 2016:

Tonight the Gaming Society will be in the Student Bistro holding a Gaming 12 hour Marathon that kicks off at 8pm until the early hours of Saturday morning. Free pizza will be on offer as well as a whole host of games ranging from consoles to tabletop – no experience required!

On Saturday, DJ’s from Mars will be playing a loads of tunes in Campus on Sauchiehall Street from 11pm – free entry with your Club bands (18 y/o’s + only event). But if that’s not entirely your scene, Malones Bar will be hosting Live Bands on Sauchiehall Lane – definitely worth heading along to!

Student Media Groups, The Edit and Radio Caley both have events on next Wednesday. Starting with The Edits’ All Magazine Welcome in NH208 (Student Association Level 2) from 5pm then Radio Caley’s Gig downstairs in the Student Bistro from 7:30pm.

With all that and more going on, we’re sure that you’ll agree that GCU has something for everyone. So enjoy your next however many years at Glasgow Caledonian University and experience as much of what this City has to offer you as possible. Good Luck!
