A stint of Dirty Dancing and smooth tango moves helped boost another year’s partnership of fundraising between GCU’s Allister Boyd Legacy Group and Teenage Cancer Trust earlier in September.

With the additional support of GCU’s Santander team, a staggering £10,000 was raised for Teenage Cancer Trust with the help of some bright red buckets.

The bucket-shaking action began at the King’s Theatre in Glasgow, as the venue played host to a run of bucket collections during a week of Dirty Dancing shows.

With the generosity of audience members backed by some toe-tapping music, the show-week raised an impressive total of £6,500.

Spurred on by this success, the Santander staff took to GCU’s campus during Freshers’ Week to match an additional fund of £3,500.

This fundraising run is inspired by continuing the legacy of Allister Boyd, a GCU student who worked to raise more than £20,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust and children’s charity CLIC Sargant before he passed away in 2009.

With £10,000 boosting the ABLG’s fundraising action for 2014, all eyes are now on the group’s main event- a charitable Black Tie ball with all profit going to Teenage Cancer Trust and CLIC Sargant.

A night of music, fine dining and Ceilidh dancing will take over the Hamish Wood Refectory on Thursday November 13th.
